Wrestling Camp…”Mom do we have to leave?”

The first (hopefully Annual) Carbonear Wrestling camp was a great success.  If you missed it this year, we feel bad for you.  If you get a chance to go next year, do it!  A total of eight schools made their way to the camp, including Ascension Collegiate, Carbonear Collegiate, Crescent Collegiate, Gander Collegiate, Holy Trinity High, Mobile Central High, Roncalli Central High and St. Catherine’s Academy.

The camp split the athletes into Junior and Senior groups, each having three wrestling sessions.  The MUN SeaHawks head coach, Kerri-Ann Evely, led these sessions, demonstrating various wrestling techniques, where athletes also had the chance to learn from her one on one.  Thanks so much to Kerri-Ann, as well as the MUN athletes who volunteered at the camp, and to all the wrestling coaches who helped out during the sessions.

The camp also included wrestling drills, sparing, wrestling games, and off the mat information sessions about how to train effectively.  These were all led by Carbonear coach, Randy Ralph, who put a phenomenal amount of work into this camp (BIG thanks to Randy!).  Overall, athletes had a chance to learn some new techniques, refine techniques they knew (or thought they knew!), they got to meet and get to know athletes from other teams, as well as compete against them and learn some important aspects of preparation off the mat.  Like I said, for those who missed it, you missed a lot…make sure you get out to the one next year!
